Buying Artwork
Found a piece you want? This guide covers finding work that is for sale, buying from a link a gallery sent you, using your cart, checking out, and asking the gallery a question before you commit.
Finding artwork for sale
Browse a gallery's public pages:
- Exhibition pages show the work in a particular show, with each piece marked for sale or not.
- An artwork's own page gives you the full details, the price, and whether it is available.
A piece you can buy shows its price, an availability badge, and Add to Cart. A piece marked Sold or Not For Sale has no buy option, and a piece showing Price on request has not been publicly priced. In both cases you can still ask the gallery, which is often the better move anyway.
Buying from a purchase link
If a gallery emailed or messaged you a link for a specific piece, that link goes straight to checkout for that work.
- Open the link.
- Review the piece, the artist and the price. The page shows how long the link is valid for.
- Choose Continue to checkout, which shows the amount you will pay.
- Complete the payment.
A few things worth knowing:
- The link is meant for you. It is not listed publicly and search engines do not index it.
- It is valid for a limited time, but each time you open it a fresh payment session starts, so you will not be cut off partway through.
- If the link has stopped working, ask the gallery for a new one.
- If the piece has already sold, the page tells you. Contact the gallery if you think that is wrong.
Your cart
Add to Cart sets a piece aside. Your cart belongs to one gallery at a time, so you can gather several pieces from the same gallery and pay for them together.
Open the cart to review the items and your Order Summary, remove anything you have changed your mind about, then continue.
Prices are shown in the gallery's own currency, and that is what you are charged. Because one payment can only be in one currency, a cart cannot mix them. If it happens, the cart tells you and asks you to remove one set of items.
Using a discount code
If the gallery gave you a code, enter it in the Coupon Code field in your cart before you pay. The discount updates your total straight away. If it does not work, check the spelling, then ask the gallery whether it is still valid and applies to what you are buying.
