Using Coupon Codes
Galleries sometimes offer codes that reduce an entry fee or the price of artwork. Every code is created and controlled by the gallery running the call, not by Crafted Call, so a code that works for one organization will not work for another. This guide covers where to enter one and what to do when it is refused.
Where the code goes
Entering a call. Fill in your submission, then continue to payment. Above the payment details you will see Have a discount code? with a box reading Enter coupon code. Type or paste the code and choose Apply. The total updates before you pay, so you can see the discount took effect.
Buying artwork. In your cart, the field is labelled Promo Code with a box reading Enter promo code. Choose Apply. Once applied, the code appears with a Remove control if you want to take it off.
Either way the discount is applied before you are charged. Check the new total before you confirm.
Paste rather than type. Most refused codes are refused because of a stray space or a wrong character.
Where codes come from
Galleries share codes in their call descriptions, their newsletters, their social posts, and sometimes directly by email. Some print a QR code on a postcard or a wall card that opens the call with the discount already applied, so if you were given one, scanning it saves you entering anything.
Crafted Call does not issue codes that work across the platform. If someone offers you one, it is not real.
What a code can do
- A percentage off, so 25 percent off a $40 entry fee leaves $30.
- A fixed amount off, so $10 off a $40 entry fee leaves $30.
- The whole fee, when a gallery comps entries for volunteers, jurors or an access program.
Tiered and early-bird pricing is not a coupon. Those prices are built into the call and apply automatically based on when you submit or how many pieces you enter. You do not need a code for them.
Why a code might not work
Galleries set limits when they create a code, and the checkout will refuse a code that falls outside them:
- Dates. Codes have a start date and an end date.
- A total cap. A limited promotion stops working once it has been redeemed as many times as the gallery allowed.
- A per-person cap. Many codes work once per person.
