Analogous to the way language can distance us from reality, this painting layers text that obscures both itself and the underlying abstraction. Only in retrospect did I realize that my work relating to the breakdown of systems, such as language, could serve as a metaphor for leukemia which I was treated for in 2024, and in whose aftermath the paintings I have submitted were created.
