Abuelo as a young man

About This Work

This black and white piece depicts the artist’s grandfather as a young alebrije. Gabrielle’s grandfather has many stories about growing up on the reservation as an adopted Mexican son of a Navajo family. This piece shows a new beginning- a moment where he learns how to survive for himself.
