Bitters & Glitter depicts a fruity yet futile attempt at self care following an equally fruitless binge to meet the endless and contradictory demands of the season—charitability and frugality, celebration and restraint, indulgence and depletion. Cozily trapped amongst all the trimmings, the subject’s emotional well is as dry as the performatively placed dehydrated orange slices covering her eyes. As she drifts off from the tonic of her favorite holiday beverage in a kitschy glass-half-full, she gazes upon her piles of gifts and goodies through a saccharine glaze.
